This year is proving to be a great year for Butterflies with large numbers of our common butterflies returning after one of the longest, wettest autumn/winters in a long time.   Huge numbers of Meadow Brown, Marbled White, and our beloved Tortoiseshell.  (2019  there were only a handful of sightings, each time just one or two) numbers were well down.  Peacocks,  Large Skipper, Small Skipper, Small White, Large White and Green Veined White  have returned.  One sighting of a Small Blue (no photo of that one of course! Too illusive.  Speckled Wood, Ringlet and Brimstone earlier, along with  Holly Blue, Common Blue, Ringlet and Brown Argus.

As summer has only just begun, we hope to see many more.   24 butterfly species have previously been found here.
